ICEM’s global level company networks now include a new one: Akzo Nobel. Over 20 trade unionists from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Indonesia, Turkey, and Brazil decided to form a global network among the unions organising the Dutch-based chemicals company.

A proposed agreement between social partners FNV Bondgenoten and employers’ federations, reached 4 June over reform of the basic retirement pension (AOW) in the Netherlands, will now go to a vote of union membership.
19-06-2009Dutch Cargill workers plan strike
The workers at the Cargill plants in amongst others Bergen Op Zoom, Sas Van Gent and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, have set the company an ultimatum. If Cargill doesn’t meet the worker’s demands for a proper collective agreement before June 23rd, they will go on a strike. The workers want a 3,5% increase in wages, whereas Cargill has offered no more than 1,5%.

The cleaners of Center Parcs Heijderbos are being treated unfairly by Center Parcs and the German cleaning company Menke. They receive no equal pay for equal work, are being intimidated and exploited, and the companies do not comply with the Dutch collective labour agreement.

The Iranian trade union leader Mansour Osanloo (48) will be awarded the 2008 FNV vakbondsrechtenprijs (Trade Union Rights Award). This award is presented every two years to people who dedicate themselves to trade union activities under difficult circumstances and at personal risk.
